Archery in the yorkshire dales

Whether your a newbie or a pro, our archery sessions are a fun-packed activity for a wide range of ages and groups.

Archery is the sport of using a bow to shoot arrows. The word actually comes from the Latin‘ arcus’ meaning bow. Historically, archery has been used for hunting and combat requiring great skill. In modern times, it is mainly a competitive sport and highly enjoyable recreational activity.

At Yorkshire Dales Guides, we have the luxury of having both indoor and outdoor capability, meaning the weather need never get in the way! If its lovely and sunny, we can shoot arrows out in the fields. If wet, we can head inside our spacious barn!

Archery is a wonderful group activity for all ages, where participants can take it in turns to shoot a number of arrows at a target positioned a set distance away from the shooter. The target itself is made up of a number of coloured concentric rings. Land an arrow in the centre(gold), and you’ll get yourself 10 points. Land it in the white outer ring, and you’ll get yourself1 point. Everyone in the group will normally get a chance to shoot, say, 3 arrows before collecting them in and totting up the scores. Whoever has the highest score is the winner! What next? Well, everyone has another go of course to see if it was a case of ‘beginners luck’ for the winner of round 1!

Your instructors will be on hand to provide tips for improvement, while providing a safe and enjoyable session for all. A number of fun games can also be added in to keep the activity fun and interesting for everyone such as ‘Connect 3’ and ‘Balloon Popping’.
