Understand how to use a map and the basics of navigation but never really used a compass 
before ? – then this is the day for you.
These days are designed for people who want to learn the basics of using a compass.
Using a compass to orientate the map, to take and follow bearings from the map and from the ground and to help you relocate. Planning a walk using these skills and safety on the hills. Meeting up at the
Penyghent Cafe in Horton-in-Ribblesdale and then walking in the area. Bring a packed lunch with you and walking kit appropriate for the weather on the day. Map, compass and all safety kit supplied for the day.

Minimum age normally 14 yrs

(instructor ratio: Maximum 1:6)

Equipment or Clothing you will need

You will need clothing suitable for your walk on the hills and the type of weather you may encounter.
Waterproofs
Warn ‘ layers’ of clothing such as fleeces
Hat and gloves
Warm socks
Boots
A rucksack
Food and sufficient to drink
No jeans or training shoes
